Halloween

There is no spookier time of year than Halloween, and our archives houses some of the most frightful images you may ever see!

Out for blood! It is the Vickers Vampire, a World War One era fighter.

Frank B. Estell awaits assembly of his "Texas Longhorn", a Curtiss Jenny complete with a black cat and flying witch.  This scary shot was found in the Paul Smith Kelly Field Scrapbook.

Although it looks like a Halloween party, this photo was actually taken at a "Crossing the Line" ceremony, in which sailor who transverses the equator for the first time is initiated during a elaborate ritual.

The ghostly "Spook" is a P-61 Black Widow, which was a night fighter that use radar to attack unsuspecting targets!

This Witch was a B-29 Superfortress that served with the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron during the Korean War.

This image from our Convair Atlas Collection, captures a real live ghost on film!
