“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” - Henry Ford
Welcome to Wheels to Wings: An Online Exhibit at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Wheels to Wings celebrates and presents the fascinating history of the only remaining 1930’s Ford Motor Company Exposition buildings, out of the five originally built. From a modern art success to being considered a white elephant, and now home of the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the Ford Building has a storied history.
For the first time a concise, well researched history of San Diego’s Ford Building is presented in an online photo exhibit accessible to scholars, researchers, students, and anyone interested in local San Diego history.
Presented in an easy to read format with original pictures throughout, Wheels to Wings is the San Diego Air & Space Museum’s first online exhibit.
In conjunction with the online exhibit, SDASM is pleased to annouce the new book publication Wheels to Wings: San Diego’s Ford Building. This limited edition commemorative print written by SDASM Library & Archives staff and volunteers is full of original photos, biographies and an in-depth, well-researched history of the Ford Building.
