Post War Films: A Nostalgic Look at the Past

After the Second World War, many aviation films focused on the "Golden Age" of flight, and took a look at the heroes (real or imaginary) of the era.

"The Spirit of St. Louis" was a 1957 film that starred Jimmy Stewart as Charles Lindbergh, and told the story of his record breaking flight from New York to Paris.

"The Great Waldo Pepper" was released in 1975 and starred Robert Redford.  It showed the dangerous life of a Barnstormer in the 1920s.

2004's "The Aviator" was an extremely popular film starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes.

Hillary Swank starred as Amelia Earhart in the 2009 film "Earhart."  The San Diego Air and Space Museum houses the Lockheed Vega full scale model used in the movie.
