The Second World War was the biggest conflict the earth has ever seen, but it produced some of the coolest models the earth has ever seen. Here are just a few from our collection.

During the War, San Diego's Consolidated Aircraft made thousands of planes, and the B-24 and PBY were some of the most memorable! At the bottom we see the Naval version of the B-24....the PB4Y.

This interenesting aicraft is the Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero (Italian for Sparrowhawk). Although it was developed in the 1930s, it saw service in World War Two as a torpedo/bomber.
We have several models of the type of aircraft we have in our collection, such as the SBD, F4F, F6F, Spitfire and P-51.

Our F4F being moved in our World War Two Gallery.

Our F6F shows how the wings could be folded to fit on an aircraft carrier.

Our P-51 proudly wears the colors of the Tuskegee Airmen.

This model of the Convair B-36 Peacemaker is unique for two reasons. First, it represents an early two tail version that never went into production, and secondly, it belonged to Consolidated/Convair founder, Reuben Fleet.

Models are also a great way to show experimental aircraft that never went into production, such as the Focke-Wulf Ta 283 and Flying Tail, or those that had limited production, such as the Dornier Do 335 (below).
