The San Diego Air & Space Museum received a $99,000 grant to process and catalog 155,000 historic photo negatives from the Atlas missile and space launch systems that were built designed, developed, tested and manufactured by the Convair/General Dynamics Corporation in San Diego.
On Friday, May 8, 2015, the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, one of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled flew over the WWII Memorial, National Mall, and our nation’s capital to honor the heroes who fought in the War and those on the home front who produced the tanks, ships, and aircraft which enabled the United States and its Allies to achieve victory.
The San Diego Air & Space Museum inspires young people to tackle the challenges of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics academic disciplines, and to make a difference in tomorrow’s world through an innovative, adventurous spirit. To further this goal, the Museum recently selected 14 graduating seniors from San Diego County high schools to receive a total of $48,000 in scholarships.
The San Diego Air & Space Museum offers a variety of half-day, week-long summer programs. These classes teach air and space history and science through hands-on activities such as designing and building model airplanes, launching model rockets, and flying simulators.
Curatorial is busy working on the new “Celebration of the End of WWII” exhibit, scheduled to premiere on 15 August, 2015. You can be assured that there will be artifacts on display for the first time in this area that are demonstrably the iconic epitome of the era.
The Government of France bestowed the National Order of The Legion of Honor in the rank of Chevalier (Knight) to 14 World War II Veterans at a ceremony at the San Diego Air & Space Museum on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. The award is the highest honor France bestows on its citizens and foreign nationals.
