Banquet and Bar Assistant

Position Summary
The Banquet and Bar Assistant will ensure event guests have an exceptional experience at the San Diego Air & Space Museum through collaboration with Event staff and attention to detail in the set-up and maintenance of the event space. The Banquet and Bar Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to, event set-up and tear down; Pavilion maintenance; equipment maintenance; security; and bar set-up, tear down and inventory. The Banquet and Bar Assistant must possess excellent communication skills; be personable, professional, flexible; and work well in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service to internal and external customers is required.    

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the successful execution of external and internal events
  • Understand and execute each event’s setup and breakdown needs (tables, chairs, A/V, bars, staffing, etc.)
  • Organize event storage including centerpiece and bar cages
  • Help facilitate vendor and client load-in and load-out
  • Clean and maintain Pavilion and fountain
  • Clean and maintain event equipment 
  • Work with the Special Events Manager to ensure the needs and requests of clients are met throughout the event
  • Serve as Museum security for non-alcohol events
  • Clerical assistance as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of one year experience in event operation or event industry
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety guidelines in order to maintain a safe working environment for Museum staff and guests
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible schedule – availability nights, weekends, and holidays are required 
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as a member of the team
  • Attention to detail and presentation
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Experience using standard office equipment and applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and knowledge of IPAD POS systems

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a number of environments which may include hot, cold, noisy, dusty, close spaces or at heights. Standing and/or walking for six or more hours per day and heavy physical activity is periodically required, including the handling of objects up to 50 pounds. The Museum is a non-smoking, drug-free workplace.  Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check are required. 

Compensation
$15-18 per hour depending on experience, plus benefits for full-time employment after probationary period
