United States Army Aviation was there at the beginning of it all...the beginning of balloon flight, the beginning of heavier-than-air flight, and the beginning of aviation as an essential combat arm of the greatest fighting force the world has ever known. As the technology of flight allowed combatants to see and take advantage of this new form of “high ground,” this force multiplier quickly added the third dimension to land combat. Thus began the marriage of developing flight technology and a few key Army leaders who saw a potential to change warfare forever by adding this new dimension, alongside, and equal to, land and sea; and who fought vigorously to demonstrate its potential. This exhibit will look at the history of Army Aviation from its beginnings to the present day. And in 2022, U.S. Army Aviation was inducted into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
