This past year has been an incredible one for the Library & Archives (L&A), filled with many important achievements. Because of the support of our donors, and with over 7,200 hours of invaluable assistance from our dedicated volunteers, we have made significant progress in preserving our growing collection, and in providing greater online access to the collection for researchers, scholars, educators, and students around the world.
It has been a year since our last newsletter - much has been going on in the Library & Archives in the interim. Not only are we assisting a larger number of researchers needing information, but we have also increased our work in support of grant-funded projects, made possible through our fundraising efforts. These successes would not have been possible without the talented staff and volunteers in our Library, and through the support of our patrons and donors.
I would like to personally thank all of our friends, volunteers, staff, and supporters. I am delighted to report that we had an incredible year filled with many achievements. Because of the generous support of our donors, and with almost 5,000 hours of invalu- able assistance from our dedicated volunteers, we have made dramatic progress in preserving our growing collection, and in providing greater online access for researchers, scholars, educators and students around the world.
Thank you for your Donations! The Museum’s Library & Archives would like to thank the members of our Aviation Archives Preservation Corps for their generous support. The L&A raised $10,010 during our annual appeal. It is through the generous support of our donors, and with over 5,000 hours of invaluable assistance from our dedicated volunteers, that we are able to preserve our growing collection and provide greater online access.
With much thanks to our generous supporters, renovation has begun. Located in the historic Ford Building in Balboa Park, the San Diego Air & Space Museum Library & Archives houses one of the most significant collections of aviation related research material in the world. This collection is recognized as the third largest collection of its kind in the United States. Improved storage and preservation of these valuable resources has been a priority for the past few years, and significant improvements are now being realized, guaranteeing the preservation of our unique research collection for future generations.
