Environment is the most persistent force influencing the longevity of various collections, affecting them every minute of every day. The ideal collection environment includes controlled temperature and relative humidity, clean air with good circulation, controlled light sources, and freedom from biological infestation.
The Library & Archives (L&A) has received a $6,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to purchase shelving and preservation supplies, including special archival boxes. Head Archivist, Katrina Pescador, says the one-year project will address the Museum’s serious lack of space by replacing existing inadequate storage fixtures with more space efficient equipment.
The San Diego Air & Space Museum now offers a way for the public to search the holdings of its Library & Archives’ extensive collection of aviation- and aerospace-related books. AeroCat, the Museum’s new online catalog, offers immediate Internet access to thousands of items related to aviation, space history, and technology.
