“FLY ME TO THE MOON” will be the only in-person celebration in the world of the 55th Anniversary of Mankind’s First Historic Moon Landing!
“The daring and bravery of Apollo 8’s crew of Bill Anders, Frank Borman and Jim Lovell, who became the first astronauts on the first flight to the Moon is considered by many to the be one of the brightest – if not the brightest – in the American Space program’s quest to walk the Moon,” said Jim Kidrick, President & CEO of the Museum.
In 2023, the San Diego Air & Space Museum received a grant of $334,000 from the National Endowment of the Humanities to digitize 120,000 photographic negatives from the Consolidated/Convair/General Dynamics Still Image Collection.
Each course will provide foundational workforce training in STEM concepts and aeronautics.
During WWII the now famous “Corsair” became a rugged and successful fighter, serving the Marine Corps and the Navy in the grueling South Pacific campaigns. Its pilots post and enviable record in air-to-air combat, destroying approximately 2,140 enemy aircraft against 189 losses.
