During his career, USN Captain James A. “Jim” Lovell became the first astronaut to go to space four times, and, as part of the Apollo 8 crew, the first to launch on the Saturn V rocket and first to orbit the Moon. He was inducted into the prestigious International Air & Space Hall of Fame at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in 1990.
The San Diego “Spirit of ’45” event was the largest gathering of WWII Veterans in the nation - with 46 WWII veterans aged 96 to 109 years young, plus four Rosie the Riveters!
