The Ryan model STA was a metal-framed, wire braced, low-winged, open cockpit monoplane with seating arranged for two in tandem. Patterned like racing airplane, the STA was actually a sport-plane at heart, but it could be adapted to train student pilots.
One of the most exciting things for the collection's staff is when we receive a donation with excellent provenance. This is especially true when a donation has historical images associated with it that shows the artifact "in action." One such example is a parachute rigging kit that belonged to Zilda De Carlo.
An Opportunity to Support the Library & Archives: At the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the gallery floor represents only a fraction of the collection. Behind the scenes, the Library & Archives preserve millions of items that document the history of flight. Many of these materials are one-of-a-kind and cannot be replaced.
