HAND FLY PAPER AIRPLANE 2PM-3PM - BUILD DAY OF EVENT
There is still time to participate in the Hand Fly Paper Airplane Competition during Fling It To Wing It!
Get ready to take flight at the Fling It to Wing It Paper Airplane Competition, where creativity and engineering come together for an exciting day of design and discovery. Open to students in 4th through 9th grade, this event challenges participants to think ahead—planning and sketching their ideal airplane at home before bringing their ideas to life at the museum.
On competition day, students will use museum-provided supplies to build their paper airplane masterpiece. With thoughtful design and careful construction, each fold matters. Campers can apply what they’ve learned about aerodynamics, balance, and structure to create a plane built for maximum distance.
Success comes from preparation and practice. Students are encouraged to use prior knowledge and skills to refine their designs, thinking critically about what makes a plane soar farther. It’s a fun and fast-paced way to see engineering in action and test ideas in real time.
And of course, there’s more than bragging rights on the line—cash prizes will be awarded for top distances! Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned designer, this competition is a chance to showcase your skills, challenge yourself, and watch your ideas take flight.
