San Diego Air & Space Museum Education Department: Delighting Explorers of All Ages

back to articles

The San Diego Air & Space Museum's Education Department has been busy delighting explores of all ages. We launched “MoonBase San Diego” on Feb 14, 2022 at Golden Hills Elementary School. These lucky students in grades K-5 will learn what it will be like to colonize the moon from rockets, to spacesuits, to farming, rovers, habitats and more. This 15-week program will enrich the students in engineering design challenges, help foster executive function in innovation and collaboration, and explore a wide variety of career options.

Public programs for families are back at the Museum. In February we are hosting two programs, Imagine the Future of Flight about what aviation will look like in the future and Legends of Engineering which explores innovation and invention throughout our world. These events feature hands-on activities, chances to talk with mentors in the industry and to have some fun. And on May 21, 2022 we are inviting guest to join us for our annual, fun-filled Space Day.

At the Museum we believe in life-long learning and are relaunching our speaker series for adults and seniors. These talks will range in topics from the history of the wing to flying a Heely helicopter in the Vietnam war. The talks will be both in person and virtual for the adult learner. In addition, we will have available a speaker’s bureau from our docents who will come to your event as a guest speaker.

Summer is around the corner and it is almost time for camp. This year we will serve students from traditional kindergarten through 12th grade in exciting subjects, like astronauts in training, flight simulation, and joining the resistance against “Land and Sea”. Camp goes on sale March 7, 2022 for a summer of fun.
