Highlighting the International Air & Space Hall of Fame

From the beginning mankind has looked toward the stars and aspired to fly. This passage from Earth to heavens is one of our most noble achievements. From the mythical Daedalus to Neil Armstrong who first walked on the Moon, a chosen few of each generation have been inspired to expand our knowledge and capacity in the realm of flight in air and space.

The chronicle of the progress of these pioneers has given society a rich and vital heritage which must be preserved for future generations. The International Air & Space Hall of Fame is dedicated to assuring the youth of today, and of the future, have an opportunity to become familiar with the accomplishments of these pioneers, inspiring our youth to pursue careers in the Air & Space sciences.

The members of the International Air & Space Hall of Fame are recognized for their outstanding contributions to aviation and space innovations.

“The International Air & Space Hall of Fame at the San Diego Air & Space Museum is truly the most prestigious of its type in the world,” said Museum President & CEO Jim Kidrick. “The hall is home to the most recognizable and impactful men and women in the history of aviation and space exploration. The Museum is proud and honored to be the steward of this educational and inspirational institution.”

In response to popular demand, the Museum has been highlighting the distinguished members of the International Air & Space Hall of Fame since February with monthly eblasts to Museum members and supporters and on the Museum’s social media platforms. To date, the notable Hall of Famers who have been featured include Chuck Yeager, Sally Ride, NASA’s Mission Control, Christa McAuliffe, the Tuskegee Airmen, Patty Wagstaff and Katherine Stinson.

With the desire for information about the Hall and its members increasing every day, the Museum will now be highlighting one member on a weekly basis with its new “Hall of Fame Friday” series, starting in September with Lloyd Fig Newton (Sept. 4), Ellen Ochoa (11), Bill Anders (18) and Eddie Rickenbacker (25).
