World famous aviator Charles Lindbergh is now welcoming guests to the San Diego Air & Space Museum!
A life-like animatronic of Lindbergh stands under the wing of the “Spirit of St. Louis” – the world's only flying replica of his famous plane – just inside the Museum’s entrance in the Theodore Gildred Rotunda.
Lindbergh greets visitors and tells the story of how in May 1927, he made history by becoming the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. He also shares with the visitors the adventure and history of air and space exploration they will experience during their trip through the Museum.
From early aviation legends like Chanute and Lilienthal, to the Wright Brothers, through the rapid progress of two World Wars at either end of the Golden Age of Flight, to the amazing advances through the jet and space age, Lindbergh entices visitors to engage in the wonders of flight and space travel.
The animatronic was created by LifeFormations, a diversely talented art and fabrication studio dedicated to creating world class figures, attractions, exhibits and sculpted elements.
The animatronic is a must see and the first of its kind in Balboa Park.
