Education has always been a core value of the San Diego Air & Space Museum! Every day we educate an ever-growing range of audiences regarding the advancements and innovations made through mankind’s ongoing exploration of new aviation and space technologies. Each year our commitment to education expands into new and exciting areas, and Fiscal Year 2023 saw us step boldly into sometimes new, other times familiar, yet always ground-breaking arenas.

Three initiatives stand out in particular:

We unveiled a new “Mission Control” Mobile Classroom, which affords the Museum the ability to expand our educational opportunities to communities where access to STEM education is needed most. We now go to students where they live and learn.

Our Library & Archives earned a $334,000 Federal National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant to preserve the history of one of the most iconic aerospace corporations in the history of the United States, San Diego’s own Consolidated/Convair/General Dynamics Corporation. It highlights the significant and positive impact of aerospace in our own community.

After years of brainstorming, planning and good old-fashion hard work by our talented team of in-house artisans, creative thinkers and inspirational educators, we launched “Moon Base” San Diego, an exciting new education and activity center at our main location in Balboa Park. Moon Base takes kids to space!

You will learn more in this Annual Report about all three of these exciting endeavors – and so much more about the Museum’s accomplishments and achievements in 2023.
