William Shatner was born March 22, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec. He studied economics at the McGill University Faculty of Management, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. During this time, he pursued an acting career, appearing in roles on Broadway, television, and film. In 1966, Shatner appeared as Captain James T. Kirk in the original television series Star Trek, a role that he reprised for the Star Trek films from 1979 to 1994. He also performed a reading of the show's introductory speech for the crew of the STS-133 on the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2011. Many astronauts credit Star Trek for inspiring them to pursue a career in space exploration, including Mae Jemison who became the first real astronaut to appear on Star Trek in 1993. Shatner had the opportunity to experience spaceflight for the first time on October 13, 2021. He boarded the RSS First Step as part of the Blue Origin NS-18 sub-orbital spaceflight at the age of 90, holding the title of oldest person to fly into space until May 19, 2024.
Inducted in 2023.
