Established in 1988 as the International Aerospace Hall of Fame (IAHF) Endowment Fund by the IAHF Board of Directors, with funds provided by Bill Gibbs, a San Diego businessman and founder of what is now Montgomery Field, for the purpose of providing financial assistance for students pursuing a career in aviation, or an aerospace related field, with emphasis placed on those who plan to pursue a technical specialty. In 1990 the IAHF Endowment Fund was renamed the Bill Gibbs Endowment Fund. On April 1, 1993 the IAHF merged with what is now the San Diego Air & Space Museum, which then assumed full responsibility for the Fund. Since 1989, $277,000 has been awarded to 115 Bill Gibbs scholars.
Eligibility Factors and Limitations: Graduating seniors of San Diego County high schools who will be attending a four year college.
Basis of Selection:
Application Procedure: Interested students can either write directly to the San Diego Air & Space Museum (Attn. Library & Archives) requesting an application for scholarship or download the application. Completed applications must then be sent directly to the Museum at the address listed above, and postmarked not later than April 1. Eligible applicants will be interviewed.
