Richard Mitchell worked for William Randolph Hearst as an executive pilot. He worked for Consairway, Pan Am, and United. He was inducted into the OX5 Aviation Hall of Fame in 1986.
Richard Whitehead served in the U.S. Army Airborne during World War II. The collection primarily consists of his personal correspondence with his family members, particularly his mother and sister. Whitehead also took dozens of photographs during his time in the military and abroad.
Born in San Diego on October 19, 1924, Robert C. “Bob” Kemp was a publications editor and illustrator with General Dynamics in San Diego, as well as a noted artist, specializing in aircraft and sailing ship paintings.
The collection contains material related to the work of San Diego engineer Robert Johnston (1934-2022) and includes his engineering design pitches, authored technical papers and research studies, and presenter’s notes and presentation masters. mostly related to his employment at Convair. It also contains his personal awards.
