Lee Francis Duncan was born in 1906 in Rome, Kansas. After graduation high school in Braman, Oklahoma, he began flying cadet training in 1925 in San Antonio. He was a pilot for United Airlines and in the Air Corp. Reserve. In 1928, Duncan flew Executive Mail during a presidential trip to Wisconsin. He was later part of the crew that made the first airmail stop in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1941 he transferred to the War Department Reserve Pool. He flew as a noncombatant as an United Air Lines Pilot for Army Transport in the Pacific between 1943 and 1945.
