Discover the remarkable story of one of aviation’s most accomplished—and often overlooked—pioneers during a special screening of The Flight of Jackie Cochran at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

The documentary will be presented on the Museum’s state-of-the-art LED video wall in the Pavilion of Flight.

About the Documentary
The Flight of Jackie Cochran tells the story of “the most famous pilot you’ve never heard of”—a woman who shattered aviation records, broke the sound barrier and helped change the course of history, only to be largely forgotten by it.

A contemporary and rival of Amelia Earhart, Jackie Cochran became one of the most influential figures in American aviation. During World War II, she played a central role in establishing the Women Airforce Service Pilots, better known as the WASP, and later set an extraordinary number of speed, distance and altitude records.

Behind Cochran’s public achievements, however, was a private life carefully constructed to conceal her past. Drawing on newly discovered archival materials and personal correspondence, the documentary explores a long-buried secret from her childhood and examines how her beginnings shaped her ambition, determination and relentless drive to succeed.

The film also features scenes from the stage play The Flight of Jackie Cochran, written by and starring Nancy Hasty. Based on archival material uncovered during Hasty’s research, these dramatic reenactments bring Cochran’s voice and inner world to life while connecting her personal struggles with her historic accomplishments.

More than a traditional biography, The Flight of Jackie Cochran examines how history chooses its heroes and why some extraordinary stories fade from public memory. It is a powerful exploration of ambition, perseverance, identity and the cost of greatness.
