Space Day 2023

The San Diego Air & Space Museum’s 18th Annual Space Day celebration is set for Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Museum’s location in Balboa Park. Space Day features demonstrations, giveaways, and fun, hands-on activities with local and national space industry experts. 

Activities for kids of all ages at Space Day include:

  • Talking to Space Experts
  • Touching a Meteorite
  • Building & Flying Paper Rockets
  • Designing Your Own Space Patch
  • Giveaways

Space Day is included with the price of admission to the Museum. Youth groups and chaperones of 10 or more that preregister at education@sdasm.org are free. 

Invited community partners include meteorite collector and enthusiast Dr. Nick Gessler, the SDAA (San Diego Astronomical Society, which will be bringing their sun telescope), space food collector Paul Schultz, and solar system ambassadors Dr. Neil Farber and Lyford Rome. Space Day also will highlight “Shine like Sally” as the Museum partners with Sally’s Night (Sally Ride) to focus on STEM careers like Sally Ride Science.

The Museum’s unique “SPACE: Our Greatest Adventure” is also open for viewing throughout the event, including the authentic Apollo 9 Command Module, moon rocks, space suits, a Mars rover and more. The new “ABOVE AND BEYOND” special exhibition exploring the future of aviation and space exploration and innovation also is included during Space Day.
