You can read the full rules online, but the idea is simple: build a vehicle, release it down a ramp, and see if it can land safely on the other side of the gap. It can’t be too big, it can’t be too expensive, and it can’t be too dangerous, but the rest is up to you and your imagination! We’ll give you feedback, create opportunities to talk to experts, and give away great prizes.
Fly Your Ride is open to 5th-8th grade.
Blueprints are due on Feb 1, 2022 and competition finals will be held at The San Diego Air & Space Museum on May 7, 2022.
Teachers can request a mentorship to help establish a new program. A staff member will be assigned to help answer questions, get material grants for students, and host a student or student/parent launch meeting to explain the concept. Students, we are offering a limited amount of $30 grants to buy/obtain materials to build their vehicles. Grant applications will be available once the student has an approved blueprint.
Cash prizes from $200 to $700 will be awarded to the most creative, sustainable, as well as the top three furthest distances flown in each age category.
