To the Moon and Back: An Evening with America’s Space Heroes on June 23

A star-studded group of astronauts and ground personnel will share in-depth personal experiences from NASA’s legendary Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs during a rare special event, “To the Moon and Back: An Evening with America’s Space Heroes,” at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park on Thursday, June 23. Confirmed attendees: Buzz Aldrin (Lunar Module Pilot Apollo 11; Buzz and Neil Armstrong were the first walk on the moon); Gene Cernan (Commander, Apollo 17, “The Last Man On the Moon”); Walt Cunningham (Apollo 7, the first manned Apollo flight); Charlie Duke (Apollo 16, the youngest man to walk on the moon); Al Worden (Command Module Pilot, Apollo 15); Gerry Griffin (Lead Flight Director for three lunar landing missions); Glynn Lunney (a key NASA figure from Mercury missions through the Space Shuttle ); and Milt Windler (Flight Director, Apollo missions). The astronauts’ accomplishments were made possible through the hard work of a team of hundreds of dedicated men and women who spent more than ten years focusing on successfully landing on the moon. “To the Moon and Back: An Evening with America’s Space Heroes” is a unique opportunity to meet not only the American heroes who walked on the moon, but also the remarkable people on the ground who helped make mankind’s most extraordinary dream a reality.
