A special “Quail Cam” is showing live now on YouTube from the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park as part of the Museum’s “MoonBase San Diego” where students from Golden Hills K-8 are hatching quail as a potential species to raise on the Moon, the Museum announced today.
To date, quail are the only birds that have been to space. The quail set to hatch at the San Diego Air & Space Museum are Coturnix Quail with a recessive celadon gene that produces blue eggs.
Their projected due date is March 23 or 24. The quail are originally from Talking Oaks Ranch in Ramona.
