Glover E. Ruckstell was a California native and early aviation engineer. In 1918 Ruckstell became a Commissioned Captain of the U.S.A. Airservice Aircraft Production where he was in charge of the de Haviland airplane production at the Dayton Wright Airplane Company.
While serving as a Helicopter Rescue Swimmer and Designated Naval Air Crewman in April 1981, Gordon came to volunteer at the “old Aerospace Museum,” and except for short stints at other museums, he had been working and/or volunteering in one department or another for 35 years. His Navy career included cruises aboard two aircraft carriers and two frigates, as well as isolated duty on an island South of India, a tour in Japan, and visits to 31 countries.
The Grumman F3F was a last US biplane fighter aircraft, serving in the interim-war period. In 1990, SDASM restored a Grumman F3F that had been ditched off the coast of San Diego.
The collection contains materials collected by and related to H.G. Andrews during his long aviation career, and involvement with the TWA. The collection includes documents, correspondence, news articles and clippings, and photographs.
Harlan Page Thompson entered the U.S. Air Force in WWII. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1943 and served as a navigator. From April 1945 he served with the 351st Bomb Group, 508th Bomb Squadron, in Central Europe
