This collection covers Jacqueline Cochran’s admirable career as a pilot and speed record holder, and includes many documents relating to her many valuable contributions to the aviation world.
Born 7 September 1931 in Houston, Texas, Gordon M. Jackson was an engineer at Convair in San Diego, a Division of General Dynamics. He first joined the General Dynamics Astronautics Division in 1961, transferring to Convair in 1964. He was assigned to the propulsion fluids group in the mechanical design department, later joining the Modification Engineering Department. During his career with Convair, Jackson was recognized as the unofficial historian of the company’s historical production records.
James Baross (1923-2003) served as a radio operator aboard bombers during WWII, serving with the Army Air Forces, 501st Squadron, 345th Bomb Group.
James Hickman was an early military pilot, enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWI and died in an airplane accident in German after the war's end in 1919. Much of the collection consists of his family's efforts to determine the details of his death and burial in Europe
James Leo Kelley worked for Consolidated Aircraft Corporation from 1934 until 1970. This collection contains his personal desk diaries from that time period. Entries include personal and work-related daily incidents.
