The Hoffman-Russell Parachute Company was founded by J.M. Russell and Major Edward L. Hoffman. Both designed the first parachute at McCook Flying Field, which was adopted by the Army Air Corps.
Hollis Hills served with both the RCAF and the US Navy during World War Two.
Capt. Horace Clyde Balsley was a member of the Lafayette Escadrille and the first American whose plane was shot down during World War I, in effect, the first American pilot to be shot down in aerial combat.
The Horton Wingless aircraft was invented by William Horton of Huntington Beach, California in 1952. He called the strange-looking plane “wingless” because he claimed the entire craft was a simple air foil with vertical fins and utilized all surfaces for lift.
