Registrar

Position Summary
The Registrar works as part of a team with the Curatorial and Library & Archives staff on day-to-day registration duties. They will be responsible for activities including, but not limited to, donor communications, coordinating donation pickup or delivery, database entry of objects, completion of donation or loan forms, conducting object tracking, and assisting the collection staff with other tasks such as inventories, object photography, rehousing, and collection care. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage, compile, and verify collection documents, to include both manual and digital records and forms (Donation, Deed of Gift, Loans, etc.)
  • Assist in developing and maintaining databases of collection items
  • Track and document movement of collection items 
  • Communicate with appropriate staff on potential donations for approval
  • Research collection materials and provenance for inclusion in records and databases
  • Answer inquiries from donors and the public
  • Coordinate shipping, receiving, storage and preservation of artifacts 
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Desired Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in History, Museum Studies (Museology), or closely related field 
  • Minimum of 2 years of museum registration/collections experience 
  • Experience in a historical institution a plus

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge required, museum database experience preferred
  • Effective and professional telephone and e-mail skills for business communications and coordination are essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills such as the ability to work daily and problem-solve with the team, communicate and work with grace under pressure, adapt to various work styles of managers, and exercise discretion 
  • Valid driver’s license required 

Advance Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requested 

  • Knowledge of records management principles and procedures
  • Experience with artifact and archival material handling techniques

Working Conditions
Work may be performed in an office environment, museum environment or field environment. Moderate physical activity, requiring handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. May be required to pick up a donation. Valid driver’s license required. No, or very limited, exposure to physical risk. The employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means. The Museum is a non-smoking, drug-free workplace.

Compensation
$21-$25 per hour
