The San Diego Air & Space Museum became the first museum in Balboa Park to re-open when it began welcoming back visitors on the last day of August, marking the second time this Summer the Museum has led the way in re-opening.
As we navigate our way through this challenging time, COVID19, we’ve been pleasantly surprised to be offered a significant opportunity to help our severely impacted balance sheet, the financial position of the Museum...but we need your help to pull it off! rom now until the end of the year, donations (up to $500,000) will be matched by a longtime supporter of the Museum.
The members of the prestigious International Air & Space Hall of Fame are recognized for their outstanding contributions to aviation and space innovations, and the Hall is home to the greatest figures in aviation and space exploration history.
The San Diego Air & Space Museum embarked on an ambitious aviation- and space-themed Facebook Live video series earlier this year with an inspiring group of guests, including a 50th Anniversary with the Astronauts and Flight Directors from Apollo 13, Space Shuttle astronaut Woody Spring, NASA's Dr. Jenny Gruber and Hall of Famer Patty Wagstaff.
This summer, the Education department engaged with over 280 students with virtual programming, including the popular Think Tank engineering club, Girls in Engineering camp, and a collaboration with the San Diego Public Library.
The Museum was thrown an unexpected curve ball on Wednesday, July 22, when a car ran over a fire hydrant in the parking lot behind the Museum, resulting in a massive flood which headed straight for the basement.
The Museum's Library & Archives staff have remained busy during the Covid-19 shutdown by creating online exhibits and artifact spotlights.
The Museum’s exhibits staff has been working steadily during the pandemic shut-down preparing for what has now become our second grand opening this summer.
