Fly Your Ride Goes Green!

back to articles

New this year, Fly Your Ride, everyone’s favorite annual flying car competition, will have a Sustainable Creativity Prize. On top of the regular awards for farthest distances flown, as well as Creativity in Engineering and Design, students will be judged on their innovative use of completely recycled materials, and the best example of “sustainable creativity” will walk away with $300.

Now in its ninth year, Fly Your Ride challenges students in grades 6-9 to build a vehicle no larger than a shoebox, launch it down a ramp, and try to land it safely on the other side of the gap. It can't be too big, it can't be too expensive, and it can't be too dangerous, but the rest is up to students and their imagination.

Fly Your Ride blueprints are due January 31, 2020, and the program continues to be generously supported by SDG&E and the Kenneth T. & Eileen L. Norris Foundation.
