March 2024 - United States Navy Commander Hank Strong Permanently Memorialized at San Diego Air & Space Museum

Commander Henry “Hank” Strong, Jr., the Commanding Officer of Attack Squadron 212 aboard the USS Hancock who was shot down over Vietnam in May 1972, has been permanently memorialized at the San Diego Air & Space Museum with his named being added under the cockpit of the Museum’s A4 Skyhawk in the Modern Jet Age Gallery during a special ceremony on March 19, 2024.

Join us this summer for half-day camps for TK-12th grade as we explore all things aviation and space. Use the Engineering Design process to build create, test and modify your creations to make them the best they can be. Explore the Museum and then use the objects as inspiration for hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Camps this year will also include a camp shirt.

December 2023 - San Diego Air & Space Museum runs exact replica of the Wright Brothers’ historic engine on the 120th anniversary of the invention of powered flight

The Museum honored the innovation, engineering, technology and aviation excellence displayed by Orville and Wilbur Wright – two charter members of the International Air & Space Hall of Fame – and engine designer Charles E. Taylor by running an exact replica of the engine they used to pioneer powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on Dec. 17, 1903.
