The San Diego Air & Space Museum recently hosted a special Facebook Live with NASA Engineer Johnny Heflin, the manager of the Liquid Engines Element in NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) Program at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Mr. Heflin is responsible for all aspects of liquid engine implementation for SLS, including design, development, test, and flight of both the RS-25 core stage and RL10 upper stage engines. The SLS is the most powerful rocket ever developed and will be responsible for sending the first woman and next man to the Moon in 2024 during NASA’s Artemis program.

“Talking to Mr. Heflin offers and unique opportunity to hear the true, behind-the-scenes stories about the most powerful launch vehicle ever designed by humankind,” said Jim Kidrick, President & CEO of the San Diego Air & Space Museum. “The SLS is a critical component of NASA’s plans to not only return to the Moon, but eventually to send the first crewed missions to Mars. This is a pivotal moment in the future of manned spaceflight, and Mr. Heflin is a vital part of NASA’s goal of exploring more of our solar system than ever before.”
