Field Trips at the San Diego Air and Space Museum

Field trips to the museum are an opportunity to explore hands on exhibits, marvel at aircraft, and journey out of this world and into space exploration. Admission is $8 a student for gallery exploration. Scholarships may be available to Title 1 and other underserved schools, please contact education@sdasm.org for information. 

Non School Groups (Y, Scouts, Childcare facilities) will be $9/ participant for ages 3-11 and $17 for ages 12 and up.

Educator Led Tours are available to add on to Field Trip Experience

    30 min guided tours are available for $3/ student (min 20 max 40 per group),

   Topics: Shapes and Colors(Pk-K), Alphabet(K-2), Animals in Aviation(3-5), Careers and Hereos (6-8), The Art of War (9-12). 

PLEASE NOTE: Group rates valid for groups of 10 or more. If your group is less than 10, please contact the Education department at education@sdasm.org, or you may be subject to regular admission pricing upon arrival.

Your group visit is not reserved until you receive a confirmation email.

• Do you offer bus funding?

Arts Bus Xpress can provide bus funding to the museum for Title 1 schools. Click here for additional information 

Additionally, we occasionally have information about outside bus funding or scholarship opportunities, available by inquiry at education@sdasm.org

• How many chaperones do I need? 

Pre-K and Kindergarten: one chaperone for every five (5) students

Grades 1-12: one chaperone for every ten (10) students

Chaperones must stay with their groups at all times, including stops at the restrooms and the Museum Store, and are responsible for the group’s behavior while visiting the Museum. The museum staff is not responsible for monitoring the behavior of students. If a staff member must intervene, the Museum reserves the right to ask the entire group to leave the Museum.

• Can I bring additional chaperones? 

Yes, additional chaperones are $12 for over ratio adults.

• Do I need to schedule my field trip in advance?

Yes. Self-guided visits for school groups (charged at the school group rate) are scheduled Mondays through Fridays and require advance scheduling to ensure availability of gallery space.

• Are lunch facilities available? 

The San Diego Air & Space Museum has no indoor eating facilities. There are many beautiful outdoor areas in Balboa Park that are available for picnic lunches. Food and beverages can be stored at the Admission Desk. Please let us know if you would like to store lunches.

• Can I request a guided tour?

• Are there any special instructions I should know before my field trip?

Backpacks, large purses, and similar items are not allowed in the Museum and should be left on the bus or at school. Please be aware that the Museum is open to the public, and we ask your cooperation to ensure that all visitors-whether part of student programs or the general public-enjoy their museum experience.

Encourage your students to be engaged and respectful visitors. Most importantly, encourage them to have fun!
