The Sopwith Pup biplane fighter aircraft was flown in World War I by the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service of the United Kingdom. It was very successful during the war, but it was eventually outclassed by German fighter aircraft and replaced by the end of 1917. Its official name was the Scout, but like many Sopwith planes, it was nicknamed after a bird or mammal and made up part of the “Sopwith Zoo.” Ours was built by museum restoration volunteers and is displayed without its fabric skin to show the structure and craftsmanship of World War I aircraft.
