The collection consists of 4 cubic feet of national and flight rosters, meeting minutes, newsletters, correspondences, and records of awards dating from the chapter's inception in 1964 to the present.
“Southern Star” is a newsletter that was typically published every two weeks. The issues in this collection range from March 1968 to January 1988. The size of the newsletters – which differ from 4, 6, 8, or more pages – varies every other week. The newsletters also tend to skip a week ahead of the two-week publishing trend, and occasionally are published early one week.
On Saturday, August 16, 2003, the San Diego Aerospace Museum’s Spirit of St. Louis replica departed the Museum’s Gillespie Field facility for Lindbergh Field as part of the events commemorating the 75th anniversary of Lindbergh Field at San Diego International Airport. After its 27-minute flight, the aircraft remained on display for several hours at an open house hosted by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. The day’s activities included the flight and landing of the Spirit replica, musical entertainment, kids’ activities, appearances by the Harbor Police, aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles, and food and drinks. This collection includes newspaper articles, programs, postcards, and photographs of the event.
